Who benefits from tissue donation?
Tissue transplants offer the recipient a new chance to live a productive, normal life. Donated tissues such as skin, bone and heart valves can dramatically improve the quality of life for recipients, and even save lives.
- Bone, such as the humerus, femur, tibia, fibula, ribs and other long bones can renew a cancer patient's lost bone and help prevent amputation.
- Ligaments, tendons and cartilage can repair injured knees and ankles.
- Heart valves can repair congenital malformations or damage due to heart attacks and be life-saving.
- Corneas and other eye tissue can restore sight and are coordinated by SightLife, formerly Northwest Lions Eye Bank.
One tissue donor can have a positive impact on as many as 50 patients. You have the power to change someone's future by being a donor.
