Who can donate tissue
Bone and tissue grafts offer recipients the chance for greater mobility, relief from constant pain, improved healing, and the return to a normal quality of life. Tissues such as skin, bones, eyes, tendons and heart valves are among the tissues most often used, but new advances in technology and surgical procedures continue to add to this list. One tissue donor can enhance the life of more than 50 patient recipients.
If you choose to be a tissue donor, you should inform your next of kin and other members of your family as to your wishes. Let them know your feelings toward tissue donation and make them aware of your decision to be a tissue donor. Sharing your decision with your family is as important as making the decision itself. Doing this will prevent uncertainty, assure the carrying out of your wishes and provide comfort to your loved ones during this difficult time.
